Having been a bridesmaid and a bride and a guest at many weddings, I’ve learned that there are a few things you can do to avoid wedding day disasters. Here are my top 10 tips to avoid them:
1. Have a phone listMake a phone list and make sure that everyone has a copy. This includes your wedding coordinator, the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the girls helping you out at the front. On that day, you never know who needs to reach someone and providing everyone with a phone list will definitely help them find each other and solve problems quickly.
2. Guest List Do create a complete and accurate guest list before you start looking for a venue. You don’t want to book a venue, realize it’s to small for your count and have to cut down on your guest list.
3. Have your bridesmaids bring a wedding emergency kit, if you did not hire a wedding planner.
What do I mean by this? An emergency kit has everything you might need if you rip a thread, a button comes loose, or if your bridesmaid’s boob is popping out. It should include a needle and white thread, double-sided tape, water, scissors, nail clippers, bobby pins, regular tape, band aids, and anything else you can think of that will help you or your bridesmaids on that day.
4. Be careful of wedding heels or platform wedding shoes
This is a warning and also a suggestion to bring a pair of flip flops for your own comfort and so you will not trip. Dancing in high heels is really hard and unless you’ve practiced, you should try and dance in smaller heels or wedges or flats so you won’t trip and fall. The worst thing would be to fall on your face in your dress on your big day. So, if you want to wear those platform wedding, shoes, go ahead, but bring a pair of back-up sandals just in case
5. Hire A Planner
Do get a wedding planner, at the least a “day of” coordinator (though “month of” is a more accurate term). You don’t want your mom chasing down the bridal party for photos instead of seeing you put on your wedding dress.
6. Reconfirm with all of your key vendors the day before if you did not hire a planner or day of coordinator.
I’ve seen this happen too often, when you plan your own wedding. A photographer or florist or even the officiant does not show up on that day or shows up late because they didn’t know where to go. Make sure you reconfirm with everyone and give them a contact number of one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen so they are on time and ready to go.
7. Most important, enjoy your day, leave it up to your planner, or family to handle all the mishaps.
